Cheshire swimmers performed well at the Inter Counties Swimming Competition in Sheffield on the 7th October. Out of the 24 individual events 15 swims were inside their submitted time.
Wins were recorded by Lewis Cottam in the 12/13yrs 100 Free and Eliza Pinkstone in the Girls 12/13yrs 100m Fly plus the Boys 14/15yrs Medley Team comprising of Toby Hill (Back), James Rollaston (Breast),Jay Cushen (Fly) and Frankie Docking-Smith (Free).
Runners-up spots came from swims by Caitlin Lansom in the Girls 12/13yrs 100 Breast, Amy West and Jay Cushen in the Girls and Boys 14/15yrs 100m Fly respectively and Kaiden Welsby in the boys 12/13yrs 100m Back - all inside their submitted entry times. The Boys 16/17yrs Medley with the team of Harvey Jones (Back), Will Murray (Breast, Alex Watkinson (Fly) and Aaron Fox on Freestyle bringing the team home also finished second. This performance was matched later in the programme, by the 12/13yr boys team of Kaiden Welsby on Back, Ciaran Kenningley on Breast, Reece Grady on Fly and Lewis Cottam on Free. The final race of the 2018 programme – the mixed 6 x 50m Freestyle relay – also finished in second place. In order of swim the team consisted of Aaron Fox, Frankie Docking-Smith, Laura Kirby, Megan Hughes, Beth Robinson and Lewis Cottam.
Amy West in the Girls 14/15yrs 100m Free, Ciaran Kenningley Boys 12/13yrs 100m Breast and Alex Watkinson in the Boys 100m Fly together with the Girls 12/13yrs Medley Team of Sophie Weston (Back), Caitlin Lansom (Breast, Eliza Pinkstone (Fly) and Beth Robinson anchoring the team on Free all finished in third place.
Congratulations to the Cheshire team who finished top of Division 2 with 461 points to Notts tally of 444 and Derbyshires 431. After only one season in Division 2 they are now promoted back to Division 1 for 2019.
