Masters swimmers throughout the county continue to impress at local regional national and international competition. The British Championships was held in Swansea. A number of Cheshire Masters swimmers brought back gold silver and bronze medals and the 120+ Trafford Metro 4x200 relay team of Paul Barnard, Tom Mills, Dan Korcz and Chris Knight broke the European record by 8 seconds. The National championships at Ponds Forge was typically well supported by county swimmers with plenty of medals and records.
Another good team performance this year helped by some of our stronger and older swimmers being available. This enabled a creditable 7th place finish. My thanks once again to Nev Barton for hounding swimmers and making the team selections
We held the championships at Stockport once again, which proved to be a huge success for those that attended. Participation was up to record levels with 125 swimmers (83 male to 42 female). Last year swimmers attended from 28 clubs this year the number was 30. The number of individual swims was also up this year from 291 in 2018 to 360 with the total number including relays up to 405 swims. 27 individual county records were broken as well as 4 relay records maintaining our usual high standard of competition. Borough of Kirklees Masters swimmer Sally Shields won the Claire Dickinson Salver for top lady at the championships. Neil Mackinnon of Trafford Metro won the top male salver. Trafford Metro won the Tom Walker top club trophy once again. We were very fortunate to have the NW President, Lesley Fawkes in attendance as referee and to present trophies. Lesley is pictured below with Sally, Neil, and Trafford Metro Club President John Anderson.
